Aguilas´Polonia Retire as a Baseball Player

Luis Polonia

In a memorable and special day for  Dominican Baseball and the Aguilas del Cibao baseball team last night paid tribute to dominican baseball star Luis Polonia, one of the most prolific hitters of this set at a grand ceremony held at Cibao Stadium at Santiago City.

Polonia who has worn the yellow flannel for 27 years, will say goodbye to the sport that has his name written in golden letters after the end of this season.

The oldest active player in a car walked around the Cibao Stadium where he was cheered by thousands of fans of the Eagles, as proof of all that contributed to the team of Santiago.

Aguilas dropped the shirt, 22 the number that uses Polonia also known as the "Atom Ant", who has emerged as one of the leading representatives of the team that has won 20 national crowns and 5 Series in the Caribbean.

His teammates gave him a bat (one of the tools he used to perfection to set the record for most hits with 927) autographed by all as a sign of affection to his successful track record in the field. Poland had taken from his sports vocabulary the word retirement, but this time he took with serenity and enthusiasm.
