Caribbean Regata in Dominican Republic





Sailors from USA, England, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, Virgin Islands, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Bermuda and host the Dominican Republic begin to reach the coast of Cabarete, Puerto Plata, to participate in the Ninth Caribbean Sailing Regatta Laser.

The event is scheduled to begin on Friday 14, with a ceremonial act and skills under the supervision of the Federación Dominicana de Vela. Participants include the Laser world champion Nick Thompson of England, Charlie Buckingham U.S. and Japan Meguro Tamai.

The Dominican team is represented by Raul Aguayo, Ari Barshi, Guillermo Flaquer, Jorge Abreu, Omar Bros. Many of the sailors are already training hard in Cabarete to adapt to current conditions.

While much of the world is under snow and bad weather, the regatta January Cabarete, has become a major attraction. 40 boats will be competing for the honor of being champions.

Cabarete will host the ninth installment in the international regatta in the Caribbean from 14 to 16 January 2011. The unique conditions of wind and waves of Cabarete, have transformed this small town into an international destination for windsurfers, kite surfers and sailors.
