Dominican Boxer Guzman Positive in Doping

Joan Guzmán

The Dominican boxer Joan Guzman tested positive for furosemide at the doping control he was subjected after his bout with American Jason Davis, last December in Las Vegas (USA).

The Furosemide is a diuretic that is banned in the state of Nevada, as the former double world champion faces the possibility of a suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Joan came back in the ring last December, when he defeated Davis out of action in a bout that marked his debut in the junior welterweight (140 pounds).

However, neither Joan nor her rival met the regulatory weight and the bout was held in a conventional division of 143 pounds.

According to information appearing in Sunday newspaper "Las Vegas Review Journal, the fate of boxer Joan Guzman is held by the Nevada Athletic Commission, which shall decide on the type of sanction imposed on the Dominican Republic before the end of this month.
