Messi Won Golden Ball Again

The Argentine Leo Messi gave the big surprise and won the FIFA Golden Ball for best player of 2010, in Zurich on Monday, beating the Spanish Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, his partners in the Barcelona, which started as favorites.

When all bets over Iniesta and Xavi, Pep Guardiola Barcelona`s coach, opened the envelope with the winner and it was Messi, who won for the second consecutive year in 2009 after becoming the Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player, which merged this year.

The Argentine player won 22.65% of the votes, while Iniesta was 17.36% and 16.48% on Xavi, finishing fourth in the Dutch Inter Milan Wesley Sneijder (14.48%) Uruguayan forward Diego Forlan, ranked fifth (7.61%)

In sixth place was the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo (3.92%), ahead of the Spanish Iker Casillas (2.90%) and David Villa (2.25%), completing the top ten list of Ivorian Didier Drogba (1 , 68%) and another member of the Red, Xabi Alonso (1.52%).

With the triumph of Messi breaks the tradition of recent years, in which a player of World Cup winning team took the trophy for best player of the year. "It was a joy to be with these people, among the finalists. I share with my friends and my loved ones, and all Barcelona fans and all Argentines," Messi said after receiving the trophy.
