Baseball Player Killer will be Released

Dominican reliever Alfredo Simon, who was charged with involuntary homicide, would be freed from jail by Wednesday, a source told The Associated Press.

"Simon and the victim's family are close to reaching an agreement to withdraw the complaint and the prosecution has no evidence involving the player with the fact, so it is possible that between Tuesday and Wednesday to be released" said the informant with knowledge of the negotiations.

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement between the parties is not yet official.

Simon, 29, was sent to detention for a year accused of shooting and killing the young Michel Castillo, 25, and gunshot wound to his brother Starlin Castillo, 17, in an incident during the celebrations New Year in the town of Luperon, Puerto Plata.

Simon took over as closer for the Orioles last season and had a 4-2 record with 4.93 ERA, plus 17 saves in his third season in the majors, all with the Baltimore Orioles.
