NY Yankees Pettite Retires from Baseball

Andy Pettite

Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte announced today his final withdrawal of the Major League Baseball.

Pettitte made the announcement at a news conference at Yankee Stadium, told The Associated Press a source aware of the decision. The source requested anonymity because he still has not been summoned to the press.

The left-hander has pondered since the end of the season if he remained active for the 2011 season. Became a free agent, but did not attempt to negotiate a contract.

His plan to withdraw was broadcast by the YES Network inicialmemte, the club's television channel. Pettitte, 38, pitched 16 seasons in the majors, including 13 with the Yankees.

In 2010, he had improved to 11-3 with 3.28 ERA and missed two months with a groin injury.
