Basket Ball Player Died While Playing


A
basketball player in Michigan high school collapsed and died after shooting dunk that gave his team a victory and capped an undefeated season.

Deb Patterson, spokeswoman for the hospital Holland, said the 16-year player Wes Leonard, Fennville High School, died on Thursday night. Not immediately know the cause of death.

Patterson said the paramedics tried to resuscitate Leonard before he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Holland Sentinel newspaper reported that Leonard had scored the decisive basket in the 57-55 victory in overtime on Bridgman, for Fennville ended the season with a record of 20-0. Leonard collapsed after peers and the public entered the field to celebrate.


Leonard was also the quarterback of the football team in high school.

Leonard was "by far the best player on that basketball team, was an incredible athlete, " said Bridgman coach Mike Miller. "All our prayers are for Fennville.
