A-Rod Look Like 2007 MVP

Weeks before Alex Rodriguez hit his first homer of spring training this Sunday against the Astros, Kevin Long had a sensation of pleasure when he saw a lighter and slim A-Rod go to the batting cage during a visit in late winter see the third baseman for the Yankees in Miami.

Right then I said, 'I had not seen this since 2007'" recalled Long.

The hitting coach for the New York Yankees was talking about Rodriguez's swing, of course, and what could be a turning back the clock after a winter that saw Rodriguez being able to train without restrictions for the first time since hip surgery 2009, losing 10 pounds on the trip.

"He has much more flexibility, " said Long. "He is well able to move her hips and really explode again. "

Long was saying this before A-Rod homer dispatched over the fence in center field Sunday against Jeff Fulchino, one hit with his movie star girlfriend Cameron Diaz present. Long noted early in spring training that Rodriguez was turning the ball in a way that brings to mind one thing:

"As I said, he's doing things I had not seen since 2007. "

Long understands the meaning of what he is saying. A-Rod, you will recall, had a good superb campaign in 2007, batting .314 with 54 homers, 156 RBIs and a .645 slugging percentage, all figures tops in the majors en route to winning his third MVP award in the AL.
