Horford Scored 16 in Hawks Win

Joe Johnson scored 25 points, Jamal Crawford added 23 and the Atlanta Hawks beat Orlando 103-93 in the first game of first-round series yesterday, surviving a monstrous night for the Magic star, Dwight Howard.

Atlanta was eliminated by Orlando in the playoffs last year in the most lopsided sweep of four out of four games in NBA history, but this is very different. The Hawks led by as many 18 points with a marking on Howard closed all night, and the rest of the Magic were misguided and could not be felt.

Howard tied a career-high with 46 points and also grabbed 19 rebounds. Jameer Nelson had 27, but no other player reached double figures in Orlando.

Al Horford added 16 points in 44:56 minutes, pulling from the field 14-7 (1-0 in 3-pointers), 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal for the Hawks. Josh Smith added 15 and Kirk Hinrich 13.
