Manny Retires from MLB

Manny Ramirez, one of the greatest hitters of all time American, retired from Major League Baseball.

Major League Baseball announced Friday that the designated hitter for Tampa Bay Rays chose to hang his glove instead of complying with the program of prevention and drug treatment.

"Major League Baseball recently notified Manny Ramirez on a matter under the program of drug prevention and treatment of baseball, " the agency said in a statement. "Instead of continuing with this procedure under the program, Ramírez informed MLB that is removed as an active player. "

The statement did not say if Ramirez tested positive for any banned substance. In 2009 served a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a doping test while playing for the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Ramirez was in his 19th season in the majors and is removed with an average of .312, 555 homers and 1,831 RBIs.
