New York Yankees Jeter Reaches 3000 hits

Derek Jeter, captain of the New York Yankees, joined the select club of the 3,000 hits hitting on Saturday his first homer at Yankee Stadium this season, becoming the first player from that team to get
such a feat.

Jeter, 37, batted 5-5, including a tiebreaking simple in the eighth inning and helped the Yankees beat the Rays 5x4 Tampa Bay.

The Yankee shortstop hit a homer, double and three hits and became the first New York franchise player to reach the 3,000 hits.

Jeter began the day with 2998 hits and walked to his goal unattainable in the first inning.

The most emotional moment of the day, and as expected by Jeter came in the third inning, when his second turn at the batting cage took the ball over the wall of the left, before a shipment of Tampa starter, David Price, for become the 28th major leaguer to collect 3,000 or more hits.

The homer was special to Jeter, it was his first homer of the season at Yankee Stadium.

"This is something I will remember for the rest of my life," said Jeter, who spent almost three weeks on the disabled list because of a strained right calf.

Jeter became the 28th major leaguer to reach the 3,000 hits, and the only addition to Wade Boggs who achieved a homer.
