Al Horford out for 3 months

The NBA All-Star center Al Horford will miss at least three months with a shoulder injury a major blow to a playoff contender Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference.

The team announced on Thursday that the dominican Horford broke his left pectoral muscle in the first quarter of Wednesday's game against Indiana.

The injury is likely to require surgery, an impressive team that has made the playoffs four consecutive years and has had a solid start with wins over Miami and Chicago in the early stages.

Horford, a two-time All-Star, could be out for up to four months, which would lead to his rehabilitation away in the playoffs - the Hawks are going to find a second opinion before making the final decision to undergo surgery, but even the most optimistic projection will keep him out until mid April.
